Introduction
KMess 2.0 will be released in a few weeks now. Because KMess 2.0 is imcompatible with the data saved by older versions of KMess, there are a few things you should know to preserve your data.
As I'm sure most of you will be aware, while KMess 1.5 used KDE 3, KMess 2.0 uses KDE 4. Most distributions shipping KDE had their data directories in different locations; for example, Kubuntu transitioned from ~/.kde to ~/.kde4 for existing installations, while new installations with KDE4 are using ~/.kde again.
The data files used by KMess 1.5 need to be moved to the place where KMess 2.0 stores its data, and some formats may need to be changed for KMess 2.0 to pick up the data correctly. That's what this page will be for.
