Hey, welcome everyone! I'm glad you want to help, we need it
Just for your interest, I've started myself without any knowledge about Qt/KDE programming; i just knew C++! You should be fine using the tutorials vdboor has posted; but remember that the best friend to learn is the Qt manual (and the KDE one). I've added them to KDevelop and searched everything while browsing the various KMess classes. To start try to browse the code while having a specific feature/bug in mind: look at the TODO or find something little you'd like to add or improve, and start digging KMess :D
That was just my personal story of course

Hi ceremcem,

I'm happy to hear you're interested. Does the following tutorial help you to get started:
http://www.kmess.org/development/

and for a more general introduction to KDE software, see:
http://www.kde.org/getinvolved/
http://techbase.kde.org/

I want to get in too

Hello,

My name is Cerem and I'm from Turkey. I'm a newbie in C++ programming, all I did in C++ is some console apps and a bit GTK - FLTK tutorials. (here is my web page that I coded in php which has a cpp related page: http://cerem.cshus.org) I'm interested in web applications, internet protocols etc. I don't know anything about where and how to jump into an OpenSource project. Is there someone who could guide me?

No it is currently not possible to "skin" KMess. It uses the standard dialog elements all KDE applications have. You can however, design chat message styles and emoticon themes. Those can be changed as of the 1.5-pre1 release.

I haven't put a "howto" for that online yet. For now you may want to browse through the $KDEDIR/share/apps/kmess/styles/ folder and $KDEDIR/share/emoticons/. You might be able to figure out how it works without help, or you can ask questions at the forum :)

Hi, thanks a lot of posting. We've put some information online to get started: http://kmess.sourceforge.net/development/ If something is not clear, just ask. It helps to improve the documentation.

But I have found that KMess use MSNP9 to connect to the server, and the http://www.hypothetic.org's doc is mainly describe the MSNP8. Can anyone give me some MSNP9 docs and help me to join the developement of KMess?

KMess-CVS has just been upgraded to MSNP12 at the moment. Most of the protocol is documented at http://msnpiki.msnfanatic.com nowadays. For now, I can recommend to study the sources, get an idea what the Qt/KDE API do, etc... It doesn't matter if you use some time for this, as it's a good base to start with. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at "vdboor" --at-- "codingdomain.com", or preferably, subscribe to the kmess-devel mailinglist and post your questions there
;)

FYI, currently we're ironing out the last bugs and unfinished new features of CVS. With a few weeks (or months) it should be ready to release 1.5. I think some of the small need-to-be-fixed things are a good point to start with, but we could discuss about that later.. :)
